(Preferably in the Los Angeles area) And how many years would you have to attend, how much is it, and do they offer job placement upon completion of school? Any other information is appreciated, thanks!

  1. California Flight Academy! San Diego, CA @ Gillespie Field. 619-448-2212.  2045 N. Marshall Ave., El Cajon CA, 92020          www.flycfa.com

  2. Hands down my #1 choice is Group 3 at Van Nuys airport. I have known them for many years and obtained several ratings there.  Speak to Claudia or Peter - Great People! You can get fiexd wing (airplane) and helicopter ratings at Group 3. They make now guarantees as far as hiring students after they graduate but have been known to do so.

    Their website is at

Best of luck to you! Let me know how it goes!

  3. Depending on where in the LA area you are looking I can recommend some good schools.

In LA, you're probably going to want to go to Long Beach.  The best place I can recommend there is a place called California Flight Academy.  Its a bit pricey, but they offer good training.  If you want to save a few dollars, go across the airport to The Long Beach Flying Club.  I have some good friends there that are instructors and will do a fantastic job of helping you.

If you love closer to OC, check out AFI Flight Training at Fullerton.  I used to work there and will personally vouch for their instructors.  I taught there for almost 3 years and know the chief pilot and assistant chief very well.  They offer some of the best financing options you are likely to find and they have a brand new fleet of aircraft.

I'm going to disagree with someone above and tell you that at all costs you should avoid places like ATP.  They charge WAY too much and don't give you anything close to your money's worth.  At a place like that you can expect to pay at least 2-3 times more than at a traditional flight school for the exact same ratings.  They even use the same examiners so you are not getting any advantage at all.

The best advice though is to go somewhere you like to be and fly with someone you enjoy being taught by.  Its a lot easier to drag yourself to the airport at 6am for a cross-country when the experience is going to be a good one.

  4. I have also heard pretty good reports about ATP. They have locations in Long Beach and Riverside.
