What are some good banks to use?

i dont want a whole bunch of fees or high fees. im thinking about doing a checking account but if its too much fee wise or whatever.

if checking account doesnt work out im also considering a debt card.

banks in my area include:

--compass bank

--citibank

--bank of america

--wells fargo

~~Hands down for me is Bank of America. They have a huge variety of different checking accounts with varying rates. I have no charges on mine. A new account rep could help you choose what works best for you. We have banked with them for 30+ years and have had no major problems. I think they have wonderful customer service.~~

How often do you write cheques to pay for goods and services? These days one is able to pay most bills conveniently on the internet, or by direct debit. So you may not need a cheque book.

Most banks offer accounts with no fees providing you maintain the account with a minimum balance. This could be $500 or more. You do not get paid interest on this amount in some of the accounts.

The best account is a savings type account, into which you can have your salary paid each pay period. A debit card attached to this account will allow you to pay for goods and services using the debit card to access your own funds. You can draw cash using your debit card at ATM's and in the bank over the counter.  Go to each of those banks in your area and ask them if they have such accounts. Just tell them what you want and if they have the account to suit your needs then use that bank.

your better off going with a credit union. wells fargo nickels and dimes you and bank of america is not a good bank...

trust me i work there..

compass bank is good its small and has better customer service.

and i have had HORRIBLE experiences with citibank dodinto there they outsource all of their customer service so when u call you get some random dude with a horrible accent that doesnt understand you..
