  1. Sweet Valley High, of course

See Wikipedia article for detailed summary:

  2. Honestly any of Chris Crutcher's books:

Chinese Handcuffs- it focuses on the story of 2 high school students, one male and one female.  You find out right off the bat you find out that the male character's older brother committed suicide a few years back and he's trying to deal with it.  Can't remember his name and the copy I have is at my parents house about 1600 miles away but I do remember that he's a runner, cross country.  The female character is a really strong character and you find out that her step father has been molesting her pretty much since she hit puberty.  No gorey details, thankfully, but you do get a sense of what this girl has gone through.  She's also an athlete, a basketball star actually and her name is Jennifer.

Crazy Horse Electric Game- this one is about a kid named Willy who's a really good baseball pitcher and the most important game of his life is the Crazy Horse Electric game.  He pitches an awesome game and they win, but it's also the last game he ever pitches.  Later that year he's involved in a boating accident that doesn't exactly paralyze him but he loses some of the ability of one side of his body.  While he's trying to learn how to adjust he starts to feel like a burden to his parents and sneaks off and moves to Oakland, Ca. where he starts a new life.

Stotan- basically it's a book about 4 best friends who are all swimmers and the only members of their high school swim team.  The school has decided this will be the last year they have a swim team so the coach decides to offer the team the chance to give up the first week of the Christmas vacation to go through swimming h**l and it's called Stotan week.  It's long week for the swimmers but they grow closer together as it goes on, but it's not as tough as what they have to face later down the road when one of the members gets sick, really sick.

Ironman- the main character in this one is named Beauregard, but he prefers Bo.  He gets into trouble with one of his teachers, his English teacher if I remember correctly, and as result is sentence to a pre-school anger management class.  Bo is an athlete and his goal is to one do the Ironman challenge in Hawaii but during the book is training for a local triathalon (Something Jack) that isn't a regulation marathon.  One of the main characters from Stotan makes an appearance in this group as the journalism teacher and suggests Bo do an article on Stotans, and in the end Bo find his own group of Stotan.  Oh and the other big thing in the book is that Bo writes letters to Larry King, which play a part in the book but I don't want to give it away.

Deadline- Ben Wolf goes in for his annual sports physical and finds out that he has a terminal illness but he decides to let it go untreated.  He's a senior in high school and 18 so the doctor can't legally tell his parents.  He decides to go out for the football team instead of track and do all the things that he's always been too scared to do before.  He doesn't want anyone to know that he's dying so he doesn't tell anybody about the illness and instead tries to make the best out of the time he has left.

Whaletalk- TJ is an awesome athlete but he refuses to go out for any sports.  But with the help of one his teachers he creates a swim team for the school, even though the school doesn't have a pool.  His whole purpose to find the people that everyone torments and give them a place where they belong.  There's other stuff that's important in the book but that's the basic idea behind and I don't want to give too much away.

The Sledding Hill- it's a story about 2 boys that are lifelong best friends and one of them is dead.  The living boy witnesses the death of his father and then a few months later finds his best friend dead.  It shakes him up a bit, but the deceased boy come to visit him in his dreams at the sledding hill.  It also talks about censorship.

Running Loose- Louie Banks is a football player and he loves playing football.  But when is coach calls a cheap shot on an opposing player he quits the team.  Then his girlfriend dies and he kind of loses it for a little while, but he's an athlete and that's what helps bring him back.  He ends up joining the cross country team but he has train by himself because the football coach doesn't want him to participate at all but because he can't win that arguement decides that letting Louie train with the rest of the team would encourage them to start acting out too.  Again a really good book and you actually get to see Louie again in Deadline.

Laurie Halse Anderson is really good too

Catalyst- Basically the main character is really good at science and smart and has her life planned out.  Then something happens and her arch rival ends up moving in with her.  And the result is the two find a lot out about each

Speak- main character is raped at a party before the school starts and it's her story as she slowly gains the courage to speak out.

    Twisted- Don't remember th
