What are some good books for "worldly" people?

I live in the U.S. and have always been interested in different cultures, traveling, etc. Have any suggstions? im especially interested in Spain, Mexico, Italy, England, Amsterdam, Thailand, etc.

    I read it after I visited Italy and it was great!!
