I have found some pretty good looking books on Amazon.com ... but what can you personally recommend for a beginning surfer (anything on how to surf better, etc).

  1. Jaws

  2. going out there with someone who knows how to surf and can teach you would be much better then a book. check out some dvds. best way to learn and perform better is to get OUT THERE AND SURF!! you're gonna fall, you're gonna suck, but thats how you learn. reading a book wont help much.

but if i do have to recommend a book. it would be 'fit to surf' by rocky snyder. which focuses more on strength and conditioning rather then on learning how to surf.

  3. You don't need to spend money as there are many learning type resources on-line.  Obviously I recommend my own book (available on-line at surfcoachbook.com).  Go to the surfing library and check out the many sources there.

A book can only give you so much and can't replace actual in the water practice.  Also, PLEASE take a lesson before you go in the water.  You really need to be briefed on water safety, board safety and surf etiquette before you damage yourself or someone else.
