  1. If you ask 100 different people this question, you'll get 100 different answers.  You really have to decide which brand to get based on what sounds good to you. In my personal experience I've found that Yamaha has some of the best sounding receivers for the money.  The RX-V1800 is rated at 910 total watts which breaks down to 130Wx7 channels.  The receiver will set you back around $1,300, but you get decoding for all the latest HD sound formats, HDMI v1.3 and 1080p handling, as well as 2 additional zones for music.  But all of this really means nothing if it doesn't sound good to your ears.

I also recommend checking out Harman/Kardon even though their wattage is very modestly rated.  They still will easily run with much more expensive equipment.  Also take a peak at Denon and NAD.  All are very good brands.  Good luck!

  2. Monte knows whats up. Harmon Kardon is my fave out of the list, not extremely through the roof prices and they're s**y as h**l.

  3. These are all good brands but i am going from greatest to least.

    Harman/Kardon     (My Recommendation)

    Cerwin Vega

Infinite (if they sell home theater stuff)

    Acoustic

    Older Technics       (My Recommendation)

    Marantz                   (Very Good Sound)

    Some Sony             (Some Powerfull)

These may leave you penniless but worth a try.
