What are some good cheerleading squad bonding activities to do at an overnight?

Our high school cheerleading squad is relatively new. 2 years ago we only had 5 cheerleaders, and 4 of them graduated, the other girl was a freshman. I picked it up the next season my junior year in high school, not ever cheering before, and recruited 11 other girls to have a team of 12. This year we have 22 girls and because of the low amount of support from our school in the past our financial situation is still low (we had to spend all our fundraising money on new uniforms for more than 5 girls) and we cannot afford to go to cheer camp this year. We're having a sleepover TOMORROW night and I'm looking for activities for the girls to bond and really get a 'cheer camp' kind of feeling, but I've never been so I don't know what to do!

  1. get crunk

  2. When I went to cheer camp we played never have I ever, everyone has a water bottle or something to drink, and says something that they HAVE done... for instance "Never have I ever broke a bone..." only they have done it...everyone that HAS done this will take a drink. The person with no drink at the end wins, the game always ended up being kinda dirty for us, but it let's you guys get to know each other. We always did pyramids and messed around with different flyers, the kind of stuff that you can't do at practice.

  3. Have a cheer off! See who can make the best and wierdest faciels. Get some paper, glitter, and markers and see who makes the best GO Team type of signs. That's all I can think of lol. I'm a cheerleader but I never went to a cheerleading sleepover so I'm taking guesses.

  4. Spin the bootle but instead of kissing a boy right then and there u have 2 take a rain check on it so rember ur boy AND SOMETIME durnig the school year have to kiss him

  5. Some of my favorite games are trust games. These can be played in a variety of different ways, but I'll give you two versions. In one a girl stands on an elevated surface facing away from the others, and fall backwards into the other girls hands. In another version a girl stands in the middle, eyes closed, with four or five girls around her and falls. She must trust the other girls to catch her.

A classic cheer camp activity is decorating the spirit stick! So go out to a craft store, get loads of school colored supplies (anything and everything, ribbons, sequins, fabric, pipe cleaners) and have fun! If you want you can create a box for the spirit stick too. Getting a stick itself might take some creativity, but it's more about the essence of the thing anyway.

You can also go with teambuilding exercises, like the human knot. For this everyone stands in a circle and grabs the hands of two other people not standing immediatly next to them. Then you have to untangle yoursleves! Can be quite a challenge, but also a lot of fun. You can also just try google for more teambuilding ideas.

At the end of cheer camp we had all the girls make two lines and tell every other girl something that they admired about them, or compliment their cheering, or thank them for help, whatever! In the end the entire squad was in tears. I don't know how well this would work at a sleepover (14 solid hours of cheer makes a girl a lot more emotional) but it can also be used after an especially demanding practice.

Finally, don't forget tradional sleepover games! Mafia, murder in the dark, and (yes, it is still fun even as highschoolers!) hide and go seek in the dark are great!

Hope these help, and that the sleepover goes well!
