I'm using the PACE system with my 6th grader right now but all these work books are a big giant unorganized mess. Are there any standard text book type curriculums that are Christian based that anyone could recommend?

  1. We use A Beka, and we like it.

They have textbooks and accompanying workbooks.

There are three different programs available, as well-the first and second are both traditional ones where the parent does teh teaching, but in the second program the parent submits grades, test scores, etc. to Abeka.  The third program is a DVD program (you still use the textbooks, but the children receive their lessons from a teacher via DVD).

ACE is another Christian curriculum-Accelerated Christian Education.  Bob Jones is yet another.

    I hope this helps!

  2. Try http://www.sonlight.com

We've used it for 5 years now and love it. The programs are literature based and planned out on a daily basis. They are so confident that you will like their curriculum that they offer a really amazing return policy.

On a side note- I take the instructors manual (you have a 4 or 5 day option-both are included) and slide it into sheet protectors. My kids can then cross off what they've done each day.

And when the year is over, we can sell the curriculum used. I usually make back about 75% of the purchase price by selling it on Ebay.

    Best of Luck to You!

  3. Abeka

    Alpha Omega

    Bob Jones

    Christian Liberty Academy

    Christian Light

Abeka is text-book based, and so is Bob Jones.  They can be very pricey! although you can get used materials online, there is SO much to buy:  textbook, test book, quiz book, TM, test AK, quiz AK, lab manual or activity book, answer key for that book ,...

Christian Liberty is very inexpensive.  They use a lot of Abeka/BJU textbooks but they write their own answer keys and tests for them, and do a very good job with it.  I have used quite a bit from this company.

Christian Light Education is very academically sound.  My kids have done very well on end-year tests with it for the last seven years.  It does require thinking!!! in contrast to some other curriculum I could name (I'm sure you would know it if I said it).  It does come in workbook form, but they (the Sunrise Editions which include the math through 8th grade and the English through high school, and Bible through third grade, social studies through fourth, and science through second) are clearly laid out in daily lessons, unlike some where you have to guess how many pages to do each day.  There are usually ten workbooks per subject per year.  Currently, the cost is $29 for one set of ten.  www.clp.org

  4. Christian Liberty- its kinda hard

Christian Light- Its pretty good but it hardly gives a challenge to your brain.

A beka books- My friends use it

I got the names from my mom and I know what they are like from experience, I'm homeschooled and in the 10th grade and we finally found one that suits me pretty well. ^_^
