What are some good clubs/ restaurants in New York?

I will be going to visit a friend in New York next month. He asked me to look up some fun places I would like to go to. Other than sight seeing.. What are some good restaurants and clubs to go to in New York?

Otto is a great social place to start the night for some drinks and food.   The bar area has a great atmosphere, great wine & drinks list and tons of easy to share antipasto plates.  Also the best cheese plate I've ever had.  They also have a sit down dinning room which I have never been in because I can't get over how great the bar area is.
