What are some good colors for my new back splash?

looking for some really dramatic colors that will go with black granite countertops and white cabinets...

Your choice of colors is absolutely wide open with black granite and white cabinets, so it's really hard to answer.  Pull the accent color from your dining room or living room for a cohesive look from one room into the kitchen.  For instance, if your accent color in the lr/dr is red, choose a gorgeous shade of red so one room flows to the next.  A lot depends on the amount of wall space to be painted so consider the largest wall firsthand when going dramatic.
