  2. Hop a train to Amsterdam.

  3. Here are some really nice places you ought not to miss:

Villa D'Este in Tivoli (a small town about 40 minutes from Rome). This is call the Villa of 100 fountains. It used to belong to the D'Este family and the garden has fountains everwhere. There is even an organ fountain that used to play music. I think it has even been restored recently, but I'm not sure.

Ostia Antica is the ancient port of Rome. Very interesting archeological site, about 20 minutes from Rome. And there is a lovely little ancient Borgo in the town itself. Definitely worth seeing.

Viterbo - a beautiful little medieval town well worth a visit. It is not on the mainstream tourist routes, and that's just as well because it is blissfully free of all those horrible tourist shops. It is very quiet and quaint, with nice little antiques and artisan shops.

There is a very pretty piazza in front of the main church (sorry, forget the name!) with an amazing view on the countryside. The surrounding countryside is also amazing, very lush. I live in Rome and have been to Viterbo several times and love it every time! Good food too! About 2 hours from Rome

    Don't miss it!

The Castelli Romani area. There are many very nice towns in the outskirts of Rome, in the hills. Some of them are Frascati, Grottaferrata that has an anciet Greek Orthodox Abby, San Nilo, which is 1000 years old, Marino, famous for its wine. These towns are all very near each other and you can make a day trip of visiting several of them.

    Hope you enjoy your trip!

  4. I would catch a train to Venice.. It is a very nice place

  5. Orvieto!!!

It is one of the coolest places we saw in Italy.  It is an easy  train trip.

The Cathedral is amazing and the city is up om a Volcanic tuft - you can take a funicular train to the town from the train station.

    Don't miss it!!!
