Question:

What are some good dried herb blends for yogurt based dip?

Here's my situation: I live in a foreign country and I have easy access to yogurt and mayonnaise. I also have basic dried spices to hand, but can't guarantee anything else at any given time. Could you guys recommend some good basic spice blends to toss in yogurt to make a chip/ veggie dip? Thanks so much!

  1. Heres are some really general spices or herbs you can toss in that really in any combo is good. I can't give you exact measurements because its totally up to your personal taste, you just add a pinch here a pinch there til you love it!

First tip is, if you want it to taste like yogurt or mayo you're going to want to go with light tasting herbs, dill, celery seed, fennel seed, salt, white pepper, maybe some cilantro/basil/oregano.

If you DO NOT want to taste the base, consider going with some onion, garlic, dried minced garlic (add to 1table spoon hot hot water for 5 mins, then add minus water) black peper, sage (you'll love it or hate it, try in small batches) Parsley, dried chili flakes/powder, cumin (for a real smokey good flavor)

Once you figure out what you like it wont be hard to come up with recipes on the spot, try to think of the flavor of food you want for example: say you want a mexican flavored dip but you dont know what goes into it: think to yourself; what spices do i think of when i think mexican. Well I think of chilis (varying depending on strength of spice!) cumin, salt, peper, fennel seed, cilantro, parsley, onion, garlic, and maybe lime.

Which is another thing, dont restrain yourself to just spices, think about adding things like wustishire sauce (and lord knows i didnt spell that right) lemon/lime juice, steak sauces, even ketchip and mustard!

Let us know what you come up with and happy munching

Want a healthy snack made with those potato chips try this, my step son loves it (works great for celery too!)

1cup peanut butter (chunky or not your choice)

    1teaspoon cinnamon

1 small pinch ginger and/or nutmeg (makes it seem like christmas cookies, gingerbread etc)

1 tablespoon pancake or maple syrup

1cup yogurt (unflavored or vanilla or chooclate, light or regular, not whipped)

    water

(half handful raisens, optional if you like them)

Mix is all together without the yogurt and water, heat on the stove until peanut butter is somewhat melted, Then let cool for 5 mins, add yogurt, then enough water to water it down to "chip dip" consistancey, you might not even need it!

Like i said the step son swear by it and we always have veggies for lunch!
