I'm coaching a jv boys volleyball team. I played in college and don't remember many drills from when I was in high school. The drills I know are to complicated for these guys. Any suggestions on drill, team building etc.. that would be good for this age would be very appreciated.

  1. Are we talking Junior Varsity or..?

The drills we do in my practice are relatively simple, and you probably wouldn't do them with your guys. But, maybe it will give you some ideas.

One drill we do is for hitting. So, the setter will be in the middle all of us in a line, we throw the ball to her, she sets it, then we spike it. But, it usually goes pretty fast. Then we go to the middle, and last to the right side. But, for how many balls don't go over, everyone has to do 10 push-ups. So, if 3 people missed, everyone would have to do 30 push-ups.

That's basically the same for our serving. We all do practice serving and if we miss, we do laps or sprints.

Other one's we do are just basic, bumping and setting back to eachother. We do lots of sprints and laps, but other that we usually do scrimmage.

For our scrimmage we have the two teams, but you have to "call the ball" and have 2 sets/bumps before you can hit it over.

For the the practices you used to do, try maybe one or two of them, or break them down so they're easier but, still work them.

    Good luck.
