I already did back pedaling drills, I run everyday already, and I lift, but what drills can help me so I can start at either SS or FS? Please I really need SS cause I doubt I'll make FS, we already have this 6ft guy that will make it cause of his size but I got a chance for SS. So what drills can you recommend me for either position?

  1. Now that you've got your physical skills down, you need to take the next step into play reading skills.  The quicker your recognition of a run or a pass, the quicker you will be able to support your teammates in making the play.

My favorite drill to build this skill is first running stairs.  That's right, run up or down the stairs (depending on the make-up of the stadium) in order to get to the best point in which you can plant your camera a record the opposing teams walk-thrus, pracices, signals, and formations.  Then run the stairs to the dark video room you will use to review these tapes and break the rules in order to gain an advantage over the opposing team by knowing everything they do befre they do it.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Belichick

  2. parachute sprinting drills can help with ur explosiveness. strong safety is a position which it's main usage is for run support so power is a definate must as well. strength conditioning. don't be afraid of contact and always lead with ur legs and hips when tackling. as far as free safety goes, don't be so sure the spot is takin because of size. Free safety is based on awareness! speed does help a bit if you find yourself trying to catch the runner from behind, however, NO ONE should be behind you if your awareness is up! good luck....

  3. you seem to have the physical work figured out, so i think some mental work could be what you need.

this might sound silly but start playin SS in either ncaa football or madden.  I think these games are great for mental preparation as long as you play the game as you would in real life.  it'll help with reading routes and the offense, and it'll help with reaction time.

for more physical drills checkout usafootball.com then go to players, then tips and drills.  there's lots of different drills for different positions.

otherwise just keep running, lifting, and eating right
