On driving and my irons I need to work on getting more

distance and better accuracy. Same for my pitch and chip shots. On putting I need to work on reading putts better and power control. I am 14 and my score on 9 at my local golf course is 36-42. Par there is 36. But I play from the farthest tees up. I just need some drills that improves the distance on my driving and the accuracy of my drives. Same thing goes for my long and short irons. On my short game I need drills that improves my accuracy. Any help would be aprreciated

  1. I believe some aspects of your post but shooting par?  okay here goes.

on your putting, don't worry about knocking in a 30 footer - those are rare and by practicing closer to the hole will actually help you with these.  get 5 or 6 balls and put them about 3 around the hole on every side.  You must make all 5 or 6 before moving back to 4 feet and so on until you get to about 10 feet away.  the first 2 or 3 may be easy but if you are trying to make that last one to go onto the next length back, you will begin to realize pressure.

On chipping, get in your backyard and try hitting a shot to 5 yards, 10 yards and if you have enough room, maybe 20-30 yards.  Put something out there as a target.  since this is your backyard don't worry about the roll or where the ball ends up, hit your chip to the target.

On driving, try to take your club back low and slow.  keep your left arm straight and only bend it (at the elbow) when you get the club hi enough in your backswing for this naturally to happen.

On the long irons - try to not think of hitting the ball - I know that is the point of the game - but try thinking "I need to hit the blade of grass just behind the ball"  this will allow you to focus on something other than the ball and you may be surprised at the results.

One book I would recommend is "The Venturi System" by Ken Venturi.

Above all - Have fun and my last bit of advice is swing slower than you are right now.

  2. get a book

  3. First there is no way you are shooting even par on nine holes if you need help with pretty much every aspect of the game. Putting is the most important part so what i do is pick out a spot by the hole where I think the break is and try to putt it 1 foot past the hole. You have to practice a lot with the short game. For long game you just need to get a coach. Go to your local course that has a pro and schedule lessons. Hope that helps!
