What are some good examples of anthromorphizing in animals and in insects?!?

  1. To anthropomorphize is to ascribe human characteristics to non-human things.

    One example which pops to mind is Jiminy Cricket, the character in Disney's cartoon movie Pinocchio.  Jiminy Cricket dispenses worldly advice to Pinocchio and even sings inspiring songs, oh boy!

    Another example (not an insect) is embodied in our name for the Black Widow spider.  Supposedly she eats her mate after breeding, and we ascribe to the spider pair the human characteristics of betrayed fidelity.  Obviously, in the spider world it's all about the selfish gene, and the "hapless" male spider hasn't been "betrayed" by his mate, he has simply contributed to the suvivorship of his offspring by enriching the female's diet.  Or perhaps he has contributed to the greater survival of *her* genes by spreading his genes no more.
