  1. have them watch educational tv?

  2. In the area of party games: water balloon in a garbage can toss, put an egg on a spoon carry it across an area without dropping.

There is always pick up sticks, old maid, or matching (concentration).  Also, make up a mini obstacle course jumping through hoops, climbing over blocks etc who can go the fastest. Duck Duck goose Chase game.

  3. you can have them draw faces on the balloons with markers.

  4. My kids are alittle younger, but they love to play musical chairs. I have 10 kids, and the game usually lasts about 8 minutes. They also like duck duck gose, but we change the animals. Their favorite is hot potato, only insted of being out if you are the one holding the ball, you get a prize. This game lasts a while, becuase everyone wants a prize (usually a small piece of candy). We also play simon says, and the circus game (you sit in a circle and sing "i am a circus clown, my name is ting-aling, let -childs name- do a funny trick inside the circus ring. Then that child does a trick, sits down, and you sing it again with a different child.) I hope some of these ideas help.

  5. I spy games.......try to hide things inside a classroom or anywhere in your school that cooperates with the theme that you are teaching...

I spy with my little eyes something that begins with B

or something that is furry and green

They enjoy this game very much and is good to get occupied.

  6. Candy Land is good.  It helps with math and colors..not to mention how to follow rules and be a good loser or winner.

    Hope you can use them!

    #1Balloon Burst

    grades K-6

    Several balloons and string needed.

Each player is given two balloons to be inflated and tied around each ankle with a piece of string. Object of game is to burst the other player’s balloons with their feet—no hands allowed. Winner is last person with a balloon or balloons. Game can be played with or without boundaries

    Capture the Balloon

    Purpose:

To introduce or learn something about each other--

To provide physical activity, have fun, build community spirit

Each child receives a balloon (either pre inflated or they blow up) kids write their name and decorate balloons with a marker. Put all balloons in a container, box or bag.

Release all balloons at once. Play some music as children bat the balloons around and keep them in the air. When the music stops the children “capture” a balloon and freeze in their position.

When everyone has a balloon the leader calls on one child and the child says the name of the person’s balloon he/she has. That child will then say something about themselves---the topic can be pre-chosen—such as: What is the best thing that happened to you this week? ---or—If you could do anything for a day, what would it be?—or-- My favorite class is________? Ideas are endless. If the group is large you can have 3 or 4 children make their statement and then start the music again…

    #3 Balloon Bop

    grades K-6

    Need several pre-blown balloons.

Players may stand or sit. Each team is given a balloon to keep in the air for as long as possible. They can only bat or tap the balloon to keep it afloat—no throwing or catching is allowed.

Each time the balloon hits the ground- a point is scored AGAINST that team. (Some one needs to keep score.) The team with the lowest score is the winner.

    Balancing Act

Need a bean bag, pencil, eraser -- or similar object to place on each child's head.

Play music as each child walks around balancing the object on their head. If the object falls off-- the child is frozen until another child comes and places the object back on the head. Everyone stops and resets their object when the music stops. Game starts over when the music again starts.

    Have fun! Barb Shelby
