  1. Please NO cookoo clocks.

I don´t know of ANY German who actually owns one. These ugly things are mostly for tourists

  2. For me? If you could get me some authentic monk beer, that would be the ultimate.  Otherwise, cuckoo clock or a left-handed beer stein.

  3. Germany has lots of different regions with lots of local specialties and traditions, so there's probably nothing that could be called "typically German".  A Bavarian Maßkrug (bier stein) from the Munich Oktoberfest probably will be welcome in every household, but to me (I'm native German btw) that would be overstyled, too much "cliché", and I don't have any use of it, because even as I do drink beer at home sometimes, I don't drink it out of a one liter mug.

Unfortunately you don't write any details about the area you are going or living in. Germany has some very fine handycrafts to offer from local craftspeople, like wooden carvings and figurines, pottery, table cloth with fine stitchings or lace (most famous: the city of Plauen), or, in my area, in southeast Bavaria, it's lead crystal (Bleikristall), that's a special kind of glass in all colors and faceted and ornamented to a brillant appearance. For those more prone to food, now's just the right season to send them Christstollen (the famous special christmas cake; the one from Dresden is most famous) or Lebkuchens (the Nuremberg variety is most famous, and available in wonderful metal gift boxes; do an online search for "Nürnberger Lebkuchen"). For kids (the young and older), maybe an original "Steiff Teddy" would be a beautiful gift.

All the things I mentioned (except the beer stein) are available in various sizes and prices, and you'll find them in online shops by using the keywords I wrote as search words. I'm sure I forgot a lot, but as I wrote, your question was not very specific. Maybe there's a German singer or band you like, so even a CD might be a valued gift. (I love getting CDs from my friends in Spain, although my Spanish is rather poor.)

  4. Very special a german cockoo clock if you are in the southern area

  5. A lot of Americans like the cookoo clocks or the beer steins.

German chocolate is different than Hershey's e. g. It's much creamier.

  6. Have them get you a dirndl dress or blouse-for a young girl, I think you would like a dress in the German style.

  7. Cuckoo clocks, Beer steins, nut crackers, Gummi Bears,

    chocolate, so many things!!

If your into Diamonds and stones, go to Idaroberstein.

Crystal is decent there too, but EXPENSIVE!
