I just bought a Squier Stratocaster. Could someone give me some recommendations for a good practice amp? The price has to be under $200. I'm looking for something that's not very loud that will p**s my neighbors off but also be decently loud. I'm looking for an amp that's good with distortion sound.

  1. I think you shouldnt have not bought the squire in the first place and spent money on a good guitar if you were looking at a future in guitar playing because once you get better you cant use that guitar for c**p but if you got a good guitar you would always be getting better. never get starter kits or any part of it. as for the amp i suggest getting maybe a VOX

The best effects would be on the Line 6, all are defiantly loud enough... and all under $200... you can go to www.guitarcenter.com and click amps, combos, then go down to $100-$200. search by rating and pick the one with best reviews, features, etc.

  3. i second the anti mg series marshall campaign going on here. look to see what you can get used in your local listing like craigslist. remember that there are plenty of people out there that bought beginner packs and quickly grew out of them. you can get decent tone out of any amp if you have a decent guitar. I have a yamaha magicstomp pedal that has a headphone out that is great for quiet practice or even hooking up to a home stereo. great way to take advantage of stereo effects way better sounds from that than i could get from a beginner amp. its inexpensive to get something like that because you can always incorporate it into your new rig as opposed to having a $200 amp paper weight.

  4. Oh wow.

Do NOT get a Marshall Mg or a Line 6 spider.

The tone on both is absolutely dreadful.

If you want a modelling amp (like a line 6 spider) look into the roland cube series (fantastic amps, definitely recommend it) or the vox valvetronix series.

Anyway, I'd recommend the Roland Cube 20x personally. It's 20 watts which is great for practicing with. It also has TONS of features since it's a modelling solid state amp.

  5. Let me tell you something bro, don't go for the cheap Marshall or the Line 6. I've had the displeasure of owning both and i can't tell you how much it sucks spending money on junk. I sold my mg to buy the spider, wow, stupid mistake, it went from bad to worse. I'm happy to inform you that i sold the spider and bought the VOX AD30 XL. I love it, it's versatile and high gain too. It's a workhorse. Please man, buy a VOX amp, you won't regret it, it'll make your squire sound incredible.
