I would like to sponsor a Haitian child through a reliable sponsorship program. I see some that require your credit card info, but I don't know it I should give that info. also I want to make sure all the money goes to the child.

I would like to encourage other people to give money or anything to people in Haiti because I read a story on aol.com about Haitians eating dirt because they have nothing else to eat. Thank You!!

  1. I sponsor 2 children through Christian Childrens Fund. You can call them directly if you don't want to give your credit card information over the Internet

  2. I've also been looking into this over the past while and have done a lot of research, etc, and finally made my decision on who to go through.

There are three very reputable child sponsorship agencies out there. I'm in Canada but I assume you're in the US. These all have good reputations and there's no problem in giving your credit card information.

Plan Canada - This is a Canadian organization so if you live in the US, you probably would prefer to go with another organization with a US branch. http://plancanada.ca  Otherwise, they're quite good and my mom sponsored through them for years (they used to be Foster Parents Plan).

World Vision - www.worldvision.org (US) or www.worldvision.ca (Canada). Also very good reputation, but they're a Christian organization. This isn't anything against Christians! However, they have a reputation of preaching to the kids and this has supposedly gotten a few volunteers killed over the past number of years. None recently that I know of, but to me it's an issue. Maybe of these countries aren't Christian and I don't want to pay someone to change their cultures.

SOS Children's Villages - My favourite! After loads of research, I'm going with them. www.sos-usa.org or www.soschildrensvillages.ca   They've been around for 50+ years and basically build villages for orphans to live in with a "village mother." So they have a family, etc. You can sponsor either a whole village or a specific child. (I'm going to do the latter.) They just seem like the best program from what I've read and the experiences of other donors.

    Good luck! Hope that's helpful.
