What are some good ideas for a block party?

Im organizing a block party I already have a jumper for the kids, the Fire Department well coming for the kids also but dont know what else to do.... thinking about getting a cotton candy machine maybe snow cones but now im out of ideas. Hope someone can help.

You definately need music! When we had one we had the following things

- hula hoop contest

- sack race

- bake contest

- random prize drawings

- Dance Contest

I can't think of many other things.

Darts, Jarts, Horseshoes, one-way balloon rides,bow and arrows, Spears... Ha Ha, just kidding.   Slippin' slide, rent a pony, frisbee golf, rent a magician, giant lego (blocks for the party), rope for 3 legged races, eggs for the spoon races, bobbing for apples, a whiffle ball game...

Plan some game stations at each persons yard. Go to this site and search around under family fun.. there are some great games, favors, ideas that you could use for your block party. The 4th of july article, as well as the carnival of games article and the party for tots is another good one.
