What are some good ideas for a luau/hawaiian party?

I'm thinking of having a luau party for my birthday in september..now where i live will be cold in september..i dont think i will have a budget so..yeah...um just try and give me the best ideas...and if u can think of some other themes...thanx

well.... if your going to have it outside then turn on the sprinklers and play some games like Island Hop (where you get towels and you hop from "Island to Island".You could also go to www.americangirl.com because they just released their Aloha issue and you could see if they have anything from the magazine about luau parties.

A Luau party may well be possible without too much expense.

Costumes can be grass skirts, surfing clothing or just bright hawaiian  shirts and shorts.

You could make tissue lei to adorn your guests.

Decorations could be simple. If you live near the beach and your guests can brave the cold. If not create a beach scene in your garden.

Any fake palm trees, surf boards, fake seaweed, shells, fake starfish, and plastic fish will add to the impact. Also a mural with a hawaiian scene would be excellent if you can draw or know someone who can. If you can, make tiki masks.

Topped off with streamers, balloons and a banner made from a bed sheet should give the effect you need.

Further add in coconuts and pineapple.

That does leave food and drink to arrange. Easiest may be BBQ, pizza and lots of fruit bowls.

For games you might have Limbo, Hula Dancing, Surfing, Races, Pass The Orange, Pineapple and Coconut bowling, Magnetic Fishing, and Bobbing for Apples.

If not Luau then could be Wild West, Mexican, Mardu Gras, Pirate, Hollywood, Casino, Backward, Superheros, 50's,  or Magic Party.
