Old movie theme... everybody has to dress up like their favorite old movie star. Or even newer movie stars. We did one using the cast from F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.. the movie with Robert Redford. Everybody had to dress as their favorite character from the movie. Then we set a formal dining room to resemble the one in the movie. It was a hoot. In other words, you could also pick a movie as we did and do those characters.

1.]Medieval and Spanish Inquisition torture devices.

Sorta like a Halloween party, but have a cake shaped like an Iron Maiden, and party games that are based on the torture devices.

I had this as a theme on my last birthday.

Just have everything in pastel creme colors and have your house really cold, so that you can have Ice cream related games and just have it sitting on a table.

Are we talking about kids or adults?

Kids there are endless themes that can be appropriate based on their favorite characters -  like superheroes, cartoon characters.

Adult parties are a little trickier ;)  I like the idea of summer luau themes or a Tiki party - serving Tiki-themed drinks and grass skirts.  If you can have this party around a fire pit or near a pool - even more realistic!
