What are some good ideas for donating to my local community.?

this might sound weird but I have 300 dollars that I want to donate or do something nice with but Im worried about it actualy helping someone. if I donate it to charity it might just fund the company and if I just give it to someone then they might by drugs or something with. I want to find a way to do something special for people or someone that needs it.

Check to see if there is a food bank, women's shelter or children's shelter in your area  These groups are usually very eager for donations, and you could actually buy something they needed if you didn't want to just give the cash.  What a nice thing to do, BTW!
