What are some good ideas for social events for a High School?

Question

Im trying for the role of social event planner at my school, and I need ideas for events. They can be totally random and out there. Its also a Catholic school so the events can be religious. Also even if the events are really obvouse maybe add some cool twists or ideas for them. You can also add on to other peoples ideas. Im open to ANYTHING!

I think one of my ideas is about art like a mural painting that consist of different ideas about religion.

Dances -- and you can theme them..like umm..a beach theme..winter wonderland..halloween themes...it's easy to be creative with them..also carnivals if your school can budget inflatable things and cotton-candy makers. My school has also had battle-of-the-bands events, and mini-olympics where students would face each other in sports and stuff.
