  1. If you use a lot of computers, suggest updating to laptops with the Energy Star logo and set them to sleep when not in use.  Also use power cords to save energy on electronics that use electricity even when off.  They could gives incentives to people who carpool or drive fuel efficient cars. Instead of water coolers or bottled water, drink from the tap with or without filters.  Also use reusable items such as dishes or towels, especially easier for a smaller business.

  2. keep the computers off if you are not using them

don't use plastic or styrofoam cups

    don;t buy water bottles

have the employees become greener at their homes

turn the thermostat to 72 degrees if it get cold wear a sweater

  3. You can propose a Carpool program for employees.

  4. I agree that marijuana should be legal, but it's a slow process that needs patience. Try growing bud in your closet, if they find it they find it.

  5. There is a lot of paper that gets wasted in offices, especially by the fax machine.  At my office, I collect the fax confirmations (sheets of paper that come through with a couple lines printed on them saying that a fax went through and when), and use them for all sorts of things that don't necessarily need a fresh sheet of paper.

For example, as office manager, I make copies of a lot of the invoices and check stubs that come through.  Since these copies are strictly for reference purposes and are usually thrown away after a year or so, I use the barely-used confirmation sheets for this purpose.  I also use them for signs around the office, mailbox listings, and a variety of other things that don't need a fresh sheet.  I use more recycled paper now than fresh paper, and it saves the business money.

  6. In class just recently we watched a documentary entitled, "The Corporation". I would suggest buying it and have it available for workers to take home with them to watch.  It is very informative.

I think it was very useful.. Good Luck!

  8. Personally, I think you could get some commitment from your co-workers to do "green" things at their own homes. That would have a bigger impact on the overall problem then just at your work place.

  9. There are some simple and free things you can do.  For starters, if your company controls it's own temperature, see if you can convince them to raise the temp by a degree or two in the summer, and lower it in the winter.  That can save tons of electricty and gas.  Also, see about getting awareness up for people turning their computers completely off when they leave for the day (but you may have to check with IT on that first).

If they are willing to invest a little bit of money, there are tons of ways that they could save.  From installing sun-shades to solar panels that are limitless ways to save if they are willing to pony up a bit up-front.

In the end though, the most effective methods are those that raise awareness amongst your co-workers.  This helps save energy not only at work, but also when they go back home.
