What are some good mountain towns in Colorado to live in?

I'm looking for a reasonably small mountain town to move to. Preferably not a resort town, as I assume those would be more expensive. Any suggestions or good resources would be much appreciated.

  1. I would also check out Pagosa Springs in southwest Colorado.  It's about an hour from the larger Durango, and it's also about 15 miles from Wolf Creek Ski Area if you like snowsports.

  2. Take a look at Salida (not right in the mountains, but near enough) or Montrose.  If you want really small, Ouray or Lake City.

  3. Try Buena Vista.  It's small and right at the foot of the Sahwatch mountain range (where the Collegiate peaks are).  It's not a ski resort type of a town and the people are friendly.

  4. Ridgway, ouray, montrose, delta, durango are all great mountain towns there is also cedaredge these are all in western colorado but are not resort town there is also gunnison

  5. Leadville.

  6. I have recently been to Silverthorne, and the mountain views from that town are wonderful. There are even some historic towns nearby, like Silver Plume. In Silverthorne, you can even go to the Outlet malls, which is fun. Silverthorne is a beautiful town to live in.

  7. On the western slop there are a few good towns like Delta, Peoria and Durango.
