  1. the patriot

    the longest day

    mississippi burning

    we were soldiers

    the great raid

  2. Amistad.

  3. Here is an old one that might be hard to find in your local store, but Al Pacino in Revolution (1988) where a guy who looks a lot like Michael Corleone wins the American Revolution single handedly (just kidding, it is a great movie, though it had a lot of critics very upset because the main hero of the American Revolution, well, looked a lot like Michael Corleone).

  4. The Crucible (about the Salem Witch Trials)

Gone With the Wind (it's LONGGG...but a great love story.)

All the President's Men (about the Watergate scandal...and quite accurate, too, unlike many American History movies.)

Saving Private Ryan (really graphic, so don't watch if you're disturbed by blood and gore.)

    The Patriot

Amistad (slave trade; based on a true story)

Inheret the Wind (about the Scopes trial re: teaching evolution in school)

    Pearl Harbor (also long)

Helter Skelter (about the Manson murders...scary)

    Apollo 13

My favorites were Gone With the Wind and The Crucible (which is pretty short.) Inherit the Wind is very good, but it's sort of a courtroom drama, so it may be a bit dry for you.

    And some books:

The Best American History Book in the World:All the Information You Need to Know Without All the Stuff That Will Put You to Sleep by Eric Burnett

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (same as the movie)

    Founding Fathers (Joseph Ellis)

    The Fifties by David Halberstam

  5.   Good movies as in interesting, or as in good history...

      Interesting movies:

Patten, 12 O'clock high, The Patriot, The Mountain Men, Tombstone.

    As for accuracy:

Saving Private Ryan, The Longest Day.

  6. I've always liked "1776" - its a musical about the Declaration of Independence, but is actually very accurate historically.

I also kind of like Young Mr Lincoln with Henry Fonda. The accuracy may be a bit off, but it does describe one of the Lincoln's first cases as a lawyer.
