  1. -Art galleries: Prado Museum, Thyssen and Reina Sofia.

-Royal Palace (kings and queens used to live there, but not any more)

    -Plaza Mayor

-Puerta del Sol (Oso y el Madrono statue there)

-Real Madrid Stadium tour (if you like football)

-If you wanna watch some Flamenco, "Cafe de Chinitas" is the place

A lot of tourints use this (hop on-hop off) bus service. Its two routes take you to most important places and landmarks.

Of course, you may choose to go on foot or take regular buses or underground.

  2. Adding to the first answerer, for night life you can go to the zone of

Huertas-lots of bars with beer and awesome tapas

Get off at Lavapies Station and walk around the main street, lots of bars too.

Go to Almudena Cathedral and the Royal Palace, beautiful.  On the same corner of the Cathedral and the Palace, walking towards the city there's a bar/cafe that has outside tables with a fantastic view of Madrid.

Get off at Opera Metro Station and walk around the area, it's also beautiful and full of stores and nice places to eat.

Although is hot now, if you want to have an authentic Madrid Breakfast, you can go to "Chocolatería San Ginés" and have chocolate with churros or porras, (I prefer porras).

And if you want, contact me and I can be you and your family tour guide, I'm always glad to meet people from home.

    Good Luck
