Just as the title states, I'm looking for some plants to keep in my college dorm. Keep in mind I'm a guy. I just want something to spread a little more oxygen around and have a change a pace, but not get the false picture I swing the "other way." Haha, thanks!

  1. Ivy is easy to grow and hardy, there are different colors too,

they grow pretty fast and you can get it to trail up on a stick or along a window sill ect. They love light but not too much direct sun. It's unisexed!

  2. Definitely the pathos plant.  Super easy and will usually spring back if left unattended for too long.  You can find them everywhere.   The fun part about this plant is that is grows fast but length wise, so you can rope it around the dorm room.

  3. aloe or a nice cactus

  4. If your dorm room has available light from the window, that’s a great place to start. Look for small, indestructible plants that can sit on your windowsill and grow in direct or indirect sunlight. Cacti, jade and aloe plants are pretty simple to care for. They require little water and grow slowly enough to stay small for your windowsill.

Cultivate plants that do well in artificial light, like spider plants and ivies. If you’ve seen it doing well in an office building without windows, it’ll do well in your dorm room, too. You can even hang these from your ceiling to save space. Use a ceiling hook with a drywall mount to make sure they don’t fall.

For larger plants, look for plants that grow straight up and down. That way, you can place them in floor space you’re not using without worrying about the plant taking over your dorm room. Snake plants (also called mother-in-laws’ tongues) and corn plants (these look like miniature palm trees) grow quite tall without ever getting wider than their pots.

Invest in a counter herb garden box. These were designed with the novice gardener in mind, so they come with everything you need, and you should have no trouble growing basil in a box on your desk.

Novelty gift plants grow just as well in dorm rooms as they do in teenagers’ bedrooms. You’ll be the coolest kid on you floor when your friends see your amazing Chia Pet collection. The nice thing about a Chia Pet is that if it dies, all you have to do is scrape off the dead stuff and start again!

  5. cactus

  6. I'm not sure what you mean by "keep in mind I'm a guy."  Is that a good thing or a bad thing, this "guyness?"  Or is being a guy like being a g*y?  I know plenty of guys who can do wonders with plants; one in five members in my gardening club is a guy.

There are plenty of house plants that require little care:  rubber plant, fig trees, philodendrons, ivys, sheffrelas.  Keep their soil warm and moist, dust off the leaves every month and fetilize them as directed and you should do fine.
