I'm calling on the soccer moms out there....My mom heard of a good reason for kids to have texting and if we find out what that reason is. I will receive texting privaleges. You people have no idea how much not having texting has hurt my social life. Girls turn me down because i dont have texting. I will personally call the person who tells me this reason and call them a god. Thank you so much and please guess it. Users who post answers that bash texting will be reported to Yahoo.

its really great and you dont have to be so loud and obnoxious :D

    hope that helps :D

  2. good reson for me is if you are in a sitution and cant call you can text or if you are in a place were you cant talk like class you can text and not get into trouble it is really inportant to me to text i text morethen I talk, because of work and college it is just better to text when you cant talk. I hope I have helped you out some.

  3. because you can text your friends in class

  4. The only reason I can think of is if you are in a situation where you need help and can't speak...for instance if you get kidnapped and can't talk...you can text HELP to get help? I know this is lame but it's the only reason I could think of.

  5. Txting is a good way for you and your parents to keep in contact with each other and its cheap.

Your Mum will be able to keep in touch with you when you are out and you dont have to get embarrased when she txts as you just text back and get on with your social life or soccer game lol

  6. Holding the phone to your head for long lengths of time  can cause health problems.

  7. Wow, you poor thing. You guys have it so much more rough than I did back in the 90's. Just imagine, guys turned me down b/c I was fat. But I guess having them turn me down b/c I didn't have texting (if it existed), would have hurt more.

Yes, I am being a smart alec. Well...putting myself back to your age (which was 10 years ago or so), I can understand your situation. I mean, not having the "popular" items can be traumatizing for kids. I think it is stupid girls turn you down for that.

So, to answer your question. What if you were abducted? No matter what age or s*x you are, there is still a chance someone may abduct you or try to hurt or kill you. What if you were in a store and it was being held up. If you got on your phone and started to talk, they would hear you and shoot you. If you had a text plan, you could silently text someone and tell them about the robber. You would be a hero- and it may save your life and everyone else's.

I am 25 and I am not a mom, but I would want my child to have texting for this reason. My suggestion is to present this argument to your mother. Because she is your mother, I am sure this will make her think (even if she pretends to not think its a good idea). If she then still says no, why don't you try to try to negotiate?  Maybe try to negotiate trying the lowest plan first  ( and stick within the limits- I know its hard) and then make a deal if you can do well with that for like 3 months you can have it increased to a bigger package.

Depending on how old you are, try to get a job. If you aren't old enough, maybe tell your mom you will do odd jobs around the house for her if she lets you have it (and keep your promise) or do odd jobs for family members to make extra money. If you get an allowance, tell your mom you will pay for it with that, or just tell her  to take it straight out.

If you really want texting that bad, I suggest to do whatever you can do to pay for it on your own. I am not sure the reason your mom is saying no, (whether its the cost or she thinks texting is bad for some reason), but maybe if you try to show you are trying to be responsible for paying for it, she will let you have it. When a kid shows their parents reponsibility, it really makes them see they have done a great job as a parent- plus they learn to trust you more. Hey, maybe she will even extend your curfew- or it may lead to more privelages in the future.

If gave you the right reason why texting is good, you don't have to call me and tell me I am a God- I already know. LOL JK.

  8. ia allows you to ask quick questions of peers instead of making a long phone call. its easy to get a-hold of people. calling takes time, sending a "where are you" message takes 30 seconds. talking on the phone is distracting. if you text, you can continue to do your work. you are able to talk to your friends. make new friends, hey that is a good reason to have texting. sometimes you are not able tp make a call, but sending a simple text is okay.

  9. 1. builds muscle in your fingers

    2. improves reading skills along with spelling skills also

    3. socializing with friends

    4. if your in a busy place and its too noisy to call someone you could text them

  10. Parent-appeasing BS-o-meter: ACTIVATED!

Texting allows for social relationships to grow. While not as intimate as a phone call or email, texting is a quick and easy way to let someone know you're thinking about them, or tell a girlfriend that you care about them. It also really helps in planning spontaneous events - instead of having to call a friend and potentially disrupt their activities, you can simply text when and where you want to meet. Also, as you get older, you have less and less time for lengthy phone calls, and you desire a quick and easy way to get your thoughts or plans across - which texting is perfect for!

Just promise your parents you won't use it to cheat on tests, and make sure they know you'll NEVER text and drive at the same time.

  11. I personally think that text messaging is a good thing. I hate getting phone calls when i'm at work, class, or even in the middle of the night. It's a lot easier to send a text message to find out if you are interrupting someone than it is to call them and find out you are interrupting them. However, if you go to this website http://blogs.bnet.com/bnet1/?p=443 it will tell you that text messaging actually helps concentration.
