Question:

What are some good restaurants in Estes Park?

I have family coming out to Estes Park and they want to meet for dinner. I am looking for a good sit-down restaurant that is moderately priced (not cheap but not $20 a plate), good atmosphere, great food, in Estes Park (not Lyons or surrounding area - just Estes Park). If you have personal experience with anything good, please let me know. Please do not simply copy Yahoo reviews as I've already read them. Please also do not suggest fast food or take out. One place I thought might be worth trying is Wild Rose. Does anyone know about that place or something similar?

  1. Many years ago, we went to Estes Park and I remember an old time western type restaurant called "Grub Stake".  The food was delicious and at that time very reasonably priced.

  2. I am not sure of the name but there is a place in Estes Park I think is call the Grub Stake.  It is a old steak house/bar type of place where you can get beef, buffalo, or elk meat burgers.  The atmosphere is kind of old timer Gold Rush era, real rustic.  The food is great and when I was there the service was outstanding.  Prices are probably moderate.  Both my family and I loved it.  I was there last in September  of 2004.  I don't believe it would have changed much because it looked like it never had.  I really enjoyed visiting Estes Park when I was working in Colorado from September 2002 till september 2004.  I would definately go back to Estes Park and the Grub Stake when I travel to Colorado again.

  3. Grub steak is okay. I ate there about 2 years ago and it was just okay. There is a burger joint (more on the cheap side) that has good old fashioned greasy burgers. It is kind of famous and it is good. (Can't remember the name but it is right on the way out to RMNP- can't miss it b/c of the lines)

I have seen Wild Rose but never ate there but it did smell good.

Be sure to try the cookie store- it is next to the burger joint and they have good cookies.

Really in Estes- it is CO food- elk, buffalo and the like and I personally haven't eaten anything there that is "great" but it is all okay.

I used to live in Denver and went up to Estes at least twice a summer just for fun.
