My friends and I need a place to eat dinner in Harvard Square (Cambridge, MA) before formal (prom). Where should we go? Give suggestions with reasons why you (don't) like it.

  1. I love Casablanca. Cool place, excellent food... Hip enough and swanky enough to go to in formal attire.

  2. I love Harvard Sq. the Brew Moon is good.

  3. THe Border Cafe is great.Great food.

  4. Bishutki on Memorial Drive, A Japanese restaurant they cook in front of you.  IS CLOSED, THE HOTEL WAS SOLD.

    Try:

    Upstars on the Square

    Bombay Club

    Charlies Kitchen

    Dolphins Seafood

    Fire and Ice

    Henrietta Table

    Hong Kong Restaurant

    Harvest

    OM

    Rialto

    Small Plates

    The Red House..

  5. Ihop

  6. A little outside of Harvard Square is the Temple Bar.  Awesome Sunday brunch!

  7. Bishutki on Memorial Drive, A Japanese restaurant they cook in front of you.

  8. Fire and Ice! So much fun...you pick what you want them to make and they cook it on a huge circular grill in the center of the restaurant. It's a very open place and they are used to serving larger groups. Have fun!

  9. I second Harvest. The prices reflect that it's upscale, but they're not obscene; my favorite dish, the ricotta gnocchi, is $12. Try the cheese & scallion mashed potatoes, too, but above all, make sure to stick some gum or Altoids in your purse!

    Have fun at prom!

  10. Don't do Border Cafe. It's way too casual, and your clothes will reek of Mexican food when you leave.

If you like Indian, Bombay Club is decent. Their vegetarian platter can be nicely split between 2 people.

In the same building is also Penang, which is a good noodle place

9 Tastes (Thai) is quite good, probably would be one of my top picks.

John Harvard's is standard bar food. I assume you're under 21, so if you want American / pub food, this will be your best bet. It's not fancy, but the interior is nice and you won't look totally out of place, as opposed to some place like Charlie's or Grendel's.

If you have a lot of $$ to spend, then there are quite a few upscale restaurants, such as Om, Harvest, and Upstairs on the Square.

If all else fails, you could go to Bertucci's.

  11. I would recommend the Monday Club at Upstairs on the Square because:

    1. you could never be out-of place no matter how you're dressed.

    2. It's very upbeat and a fun atmosphere.

    3. Price range is moderate and menu is very interesting.

    4. You can be out in plenty of time to get to your formal.
