  1. Don't forget Tommy Toy's

  2. the new delhi on ellis is good

    sams grill on bush

    tadich grill on california

  3. Gary Danko is the best place ever, pricey tho, and not downtown.  Zuni Cafe has the best roast chicken on the planet, their burger is to die for as well.  I just went to Orson- it's new and for the adventurous- they know their way around a pig(bacon ice cream??)!!  Also went to Globe - a great "local ingredients" neighborhood joint.  In North Beach, theres the Stinking Rose - garlic specialties, so beware!!  One Market (new American cuisine)has a good reputation, but Id rather go to Boulevard if Im down on the Embarcadero- fine French cuisine.  Tu Lan is a hole in the wall on 6th at Market - c**p neighborhood but great Vietnamese.  Le Colonial is the upscale Vietnamese joint.  Amber India just opened between 3rd and 4th on Market- looots of buzz on this great Indian place right now!  Happy Eating and Good Luck!

  4. Some of my favorites at various levels of elegance:

    Fleur de Lys

The Dining Room at the Ritz Carlton

    Alfred's (best steaks in town)

    North Beach Restaurant

    Jeanne d'Arc

    Sam's Grill

    Eddie Rickenbacker's

    A little farther out:

Bella Trattoria near Golden Gate Park

Basque Cultural Center in South SF

  5. for a splurge, i love coi:

the waitstaff & chefs are absolute professionals, and it's a wonderful experience - almost essential if you're a foodie.

    enjoy!

  6. You should try steps of rome

i went there for my friends birthday and it has an amazing atmosphere!

its an italian restaraunt and the waiters dance with you and are all over you its really fun to go with all your girls!

  7. There are lots of good restaurants downtown.  Not knowing what kind of food you like makes recommending what you'd like a bit of a challenge.  But in any event,  here are my favorites:

Cortez – in the Adagio hotel 550 Geary – creative California small plates $$$

Millennium – in the Savoy Hotel 580 Geary - vegan food that will amaze even confirmed carnivores

Farallon – 450 Post- Seafood served in an amazing underwater garden setting $$$$

E&O Trading Post – 314 Sutter – Asian Fusion – Indian Thai and Chinese dishes

East Cost West Deli – 1725 Polk @ Sacramento

Scala’s Bistro – In the Sir Francis Drake Hotel on Powell at Sutter – Creative upscale Italian food served in a bustling, warm environment.

Tadich Grill 240 California-The Original Cold Day Restaurant: An old boy’s kind of place that has been around since 1849.  Great seafood, chops and sourdough.  Stiff drinks, no reservations, but counter seats are first come first served.
