My mother and aunt are going into NY tomorrow to see a concert. They wanted to know if you could suggest some good places to eat.

They like classic American fair best. Thanks in advance!

  1. In the Time Warner building there is a place called Landmarc.

Great food, its upstairs.  Tell Frank the head Chef that Christine reccommended it!

  2. If they're into Southern food, they should check out Brother Jimmy's. It's literally right across the street from Penn Station (on 8th Avenue) and has the best mac n' cheese and pulled chicken sandwiches I've ever had! :)

  3. Todai Japaneses Sushi and Seafood buffet, 6E 32nd St. at 5th(east midtown) There is not comparrison to how excellent the food is here! While this isn't classic american fare, its definitely worth trying. Open your horizons in NY!

  4. Stout, on 33rd St btw 6th and 7th, is a truly outstanding Irish pub, with gourmet pub fare.

Tracks, inside Penn Station, is very good.

Harrington's, at 31st & Seventh, has fine, upscale pub fare.

  5. If you don't want to spend megabucks for a good meal, I suggest Manganaro's Hero Boy on Ninth Ave and 38th street.  Their heroes are famous, but they also have platters in this cafeteria style restaurant.  A new york institution.

Another favorite place of mine is about a mile south of Penn Station.  It is a restaurant called Spain and is on thirteenth street just west of Sixth Ave. Paella and Zarzuela are house specialties.  It is an easy walk, the blocks downtown are very short, but you take the train or bus if you prefer.  The B train to 14th will put you nearby aas will the #1, 2, or 3.

Ninth avenue in the forties and fifties is known for it's restaurants, and they came in all descriptions there.  Right off ninth on 46th street is Restaurant Row.
