  1. Forget the restaurants in the centre of the city. They are overpriced and not very good.

Go to the two major restaurant areas close to the city - Darlinghurst, along Oxford Street, and Newtown, along King Street. You can find restaurants with excellent food and good prices all along those streets - Newtown probably has the better choice, esp the Thai restaurants.

Further out from the city, about 7 kms away is Leichhardt, with its huge choice of Italian restaurants along Norton Street. But you'll need to get there by taxi.

Try these areas and you can't go wrong!

  2. Here are some of my favourite restaurants, not too expensive:

    Phamish, Darlinghurst - vietnamese

Jimmy Liks, Victoria St, Potts Point - thai

    Una's - Darlinghurst - german/austrian

Ziapina's - George St, The Rocks - Italian

    If you want to blow the budget;

Guillame - Opera House - French - one of the best in Sydney

Wildfire - Overseas Passenger Terminal - order the churrasco

Aria - Circular Quay - fine dining - go for lunch to enjoy the view and it's cheaper.

There are also some great restaurants and bars at Finger Wharf in Woolloomooloo.

The sights are the usual suspects, Bridge, Opera House, The Rocks, Sydney Tower, Bondi Beach, get a ferry to Manly - and don't miss Kings Cross on a Saturday night!!

  3. Tetsuya's in Sydney has been voted one of the top 5 restaurents in the world.

Get on the Sydney explorer buses which go around all the top tourist sites (one every 20 minutes, get on/off where you like).

Use the ferries (great way to see the harbour, go to Toronga Zoo/Manly).

    Check out Darling Harbour/The Rocks/Bondi.

Take in a show at the Opera House.

    Climb the bridge!

  4. You have asked a difficult question as there are Restuarants everywhere catering to all tastes from Thai to French.I have found that if a Restuarant is busy the food usually is good. As for things to do take a ride on the Ferries, visit the Aquarium  at Darling Harbour (good Restuarants there)and the Zoo ,climb the Bridge.Go to the beaches if coming in Spring /Summer. If coming in Winter/ Autumn take a trip to the mountains and ride the Cable Car at Katoomba. There are many things that you can do depending on your taste.

  5. Go to the Meat and Wine in Darling Harbour. Great views and wonderful food

  6. McDonalds.  You can sit by a window and watch the people go by, or on the other hand they could watch you.

McDonalds are always busy so the food must be good!!!
