  1. "Never underestimate a swift kick to the groin." - Bas Rutten.

  2. Carry small amounts of cash outside of your wallet. If you get robbed, throw the cash (few bucks) in one direction, and run the opposite direction.

  3. Anything that allows you to get out alive.  My money isn't worth my life.

If my life is at stake, then

    1) keep the business end of the weapon away from me.

    2) get the weapon away from him.

Techniques will be shot to heck in the first two seconds.  From there it's going to be instinct depending on the drills you should have done a few thousand times.

  4. A weapon bigger than his.

"Heh..that's not a knife. Now this here...THIS is a knife."

  5. i SERIOUSLY agree with katana17 here.

if the guy just wanted to kill you and take your money...thats exactly what he would've done.

give him your wallet. it can be replaced. you can't.

understand weapons defense is an all or nothing thing. especially where guns are concerned. and knives are rarely seen...but surely felt. they are wicked fast. search youtube sometimes for real life knife attacks. nothing like you see in the dojo.

if for some reason you feel the guy is going to kill you...then like katana said...pray. and fight like a tiger no matter how bad you are bleeding..

some people say control the weapon...this is completely wrong. controlling the knife will get you cut up bad. control the arm holding the knife...the knife is no threat without the arm that is holding it. get ahold of it and dont let go for anything. in the meantime you should use every dirty tactic you know to put his *ss on the ground hard and take him out of commission. then run!

if its a gun...well i dont care how good you are, your options are limited. you WILL BE scared out of your witts. this will inhibit your functionality mentally, and physically. beg, plead, and comply.

but not all gun attacks are "robberies"

the key to gun defense is in prevention, but we're assuming you are already in the situation.

obviously the tip of the barrel is where the danger is...the muzzle. this is what you need to fear. get your body off the line of fire, AND move the weapon hand offline...BOTH...one is too slow.

and again...get ahold of the arm below the elbow(so he cant bend it and shoot you) and dont let go for anything. alot of disarms will get you burnt badly by muzzle flash, or get your fingers torn up from the sliding chamber. always (if possible) go to the outside of the opponent. move the weapon to his inside...your outside. that way he cant turn it back on you.

no matter the weapon. get off the line of attack, AND move the weapon arm offline as well. control the arm at all costs and never let go. hit anything and everything that will take him out...or at least weaken his hold on the weapon. get the weapon if possible and run to a public place and get help. get checked out at the hospital just in case.

if he's outside of arms reach...for god's sake don't even try.

another thing about stick/knife defense...dont chase the weapon. concentrate on the elbow, it moves much slower than the hand. this is where drill such as chi sao and hubud serve you well, they teach you to not chase the hands...but chase the "center"

  6. Kill the robber. I'd break his arm. If he has a weapon, disarm him an then break some bones... Then call the police.

  7. Most of these answers will get you killed. bunjinkan NInja I would love to see you disarm me holding a knife, or a gun out of your range. I hope you never get to try it out.

Nothing that you can possibly carry is worth your life. If the person wants your posses ions, give them up. Most muggers/robbers only want your valuables. They have no reason to want you dead. If it is just robbery, the police are going to spend a lot less time and resource on it then on a murder. Take into account also that if they wanted you dead you probably never would have seen it coming.

there may be a time when you have to do something about it, if you get the feeling that just handing over your wallet will not be enough. On that day pray to god that you have actually done some type of training and drilled self defense in, and not just got ideas on yahoo answers.

  8. That's completely situational.

If he has a gun, you have to give up the cash.

A knife, and you can do a quick distraction and then run away.

Against some chump with just his fists, then whatever your martial art teaches you.

The best way is to stay away from situations where you're likely to get robbed. Appear confident and alert, this will make you a less attractive target. Stick to areas where there are lots of people.

  9. Don't be in the wrong places at the wrong times.

That's the most important thing and it's the only thing that can be typed that will be of any street value.

  10. One of my friends almost got mugged by someone with a knife. He was walking through an alley on the way to school when some punk with a knife jumped down in front of him and demanded all of Will's money. Will moved really quickly. He charged the mugger who was foolishly standing too close to him. He swept behind the mugger's legs with his legs and pushed the mugger down with his arms at the same time, causing the mugger to lose his balance and his knife. Will kicked the mugger in the nuts a few times, spat on him, and ran to school. The teachers were shocked to see blood on him! He got the office to call the police, who soon found the mugger dizzily walking through the alley with the knife. He gave up without a fight.

  11. - don't be there

    - cash can be replaced

    - attacks to the eyes, throat, groin (in that order)

    - use what you have an weapons (keys, coins, perfume, mace)

    - work to the outside of the attacker

    - it would depend on the situation in terms of the defense. I feel this question is to vague unless you want to run through an endless list of scenarios. (a good friend, 9th dan, karate training since 196) said that he always assumes the person on the street is more skilled than he is.

    hope this helps.

  12. Krav Maga.
