  1. It depends what you want to sell.  Avoid large items that will be costly to ship.  Here is a video with "How To" info for selling on eBay.

  2. Always provide a picture and an honest description or you will lose a lot of customers who, rightfully so, will view no picture or exaggerations as red flags.

Always treat everybody fairly and ship quickly because today's feedback will greatly impact potential sales tomorrow.

Find a cheap supplier so you can make money even selling items for less than what you think you can sell them for.  Don't fool yourself thinking you can buy something on eBay and turn around and sell it on eBay.  Even if you can turn around and sell it for a few bucks more in the exact same market, your shipping and listing costs will probably eat up that slim margin, and you won't wind up with enough profit, if any, to compensate you for your time.

Don't overcharge for shipping and handling.  You can calculate all your costs for the packaging, postage, insurance, and even round it up for a little profit, but the more profit you claim for shipping and handling, the more buyers you will scare away.  What I do, and possibly others do too, is think what I am willing to pay for it, then subtract the shipping cost and that becomes my bid, so no matter what the shipping costs, I will still pay no more than what I am willing to pay for it, and the sellers with higher shipping charges end up getting lower selling prices so they don't get any more money from me than if they had a low shipping price and instead they will get a bad rating on their high shipping costs.

Start out with a very low price like $.99 to get more people into the bidding which sometimes can get out-of-hand with people getting emotional and bidding more than they really wanted to pay for an item.  If you want a guarantee, then insert a reasonable reserve price.

The most overlooked tip is to list items so that they will expire in prime time, such as the evenings, especially Friday and Saturday nights.  Many people look for prices expiring soon and items usually double or more in the final hour in prime time, whereas they hardly change the last hour when most people are at work during the day.
