...baring in mind i want something that is cheap and easy to get hold of, or even something that is lying around in my house.

I'm looking for textures that have different opposites, so the children can recognise this.

  1. At the daycare I work at they have birdseed in a big table that the children can play with.  Many of them enjoy just rubbing their hands in it or scooping it onto their hand.  That would be a really bumpy texture so something else that is smooth would be homemade playdoh.  You just take flour, water and food coloring and the children can even help you make it and then dig in!

  2. pudding, sand, wet sand, rice, water, ice, cornmeal, salt, grass/leaves, jell-o, different types of paper (smooth, rough), different fabrics (wool, felt, cotton), feathers, applesauce... pretty much anything really

  3. Cornstarch

    Rice

    Beans

    Ice

    Sand

    Play dough

    Mud

  4. Cotton

    Sandpaper

    Foil

    Feathers

    Satin

    Cordoroy

    Leather

    Suede

    Velvet

    Wood

    Paper

    Carpet

    Wicker

    Brush bristles

    Pineapple

  5. rice, pudding, sand, flour, cornmeal, Fake snow, in summer and when hot we would freeze water in a latex glove and let the kids play with the ice hand, cornstarch, Rice Krispies, cotton balls, Easter grass, salt, sandpaper (can get different grades), fabric scraps (courdoroy, silk, satin, cotton, rayon)

  6. bubble wrap. wallmart they have it on rolls, the bubbles are puffy the when popped they are flat.

  7. tried cornflour? mix it with water add some food colouring . its really strange it goes solid then as it warms in your fingers it runs. just make it into a cramy consistency and put it in a tray with sides. let the kids experiment with it. add utensils spoons cups etc so they find it fun.
