  1. Ni hao!  Hello.  The key is to be consistent.  I like to use Rosetta Stone software.  They also have an online version for a monthly subscription price.  I have taken classroom courses, but the real benefit does not come from sitting by your self reading or listening to tapes.  You can can memorize words by flash cards, but pronounciation should be learned first hand from more than one speaker, if possible, to learn the difference between the person's voice and the unique sound of the word.  Practice up a little then go to Chinatown and order lunch.  zai jian !

  2. First of all, don't try to teach yourself. It's virtually impossible. It takes a lot of practice. Practice writing characters and making sentences. Watch tv shows in Chinese. There are PLENTY out there and they helped me a LOT. I was way ahead of everyone in my Chinese class because i was addicted to Taiwanese dramas.

  3. Well, here in Hong Kong, they make everyone copy each character 100 times, and if we get one wrong, we fail, therefore, everyone I know here hate Chinese. XD

  4. get a chinese speaking chinese significant other
