I start my season in a few months and I'm going to be working and I was just wondering if anyone had any good tips for summer training that I could do around working and what not.

  1. you can go to a volleyball field and play with your schoolmates who can play volleyball as well as you can. Remember to practice service, tossing and ball control

  2. find a group of friends and practice with them.  work on different drills and iron out any kinks

  3. find a court and play.  If the work schedule doesn't accomodate then try these things:

    1) Measure our the length of a volleyball court (about 30 feet right?). Sprint that distance back and fourth over and over again.  You're looking for a burst of speed, sudden stop, burst of speed pattern.  This will wear your butt out but keep your legs used to "game speed"

    2) bounce a ball off of a wall somewhere.  Pick a spot on the wall can bump or set the ball to that point over and over and over.

    3) if you're a hitter and you have access to a net.  Toss a ball up and hit it (basically setting to yourself) and keep doing it.  This will accomplish two things a) help you hit bad sets; b) teach you throw the ball straight up

    4) practice makes permanent so find a court and play

  4. Practice on a roof.  It's nice if it is about the same height as the net.  I played a LOT on the roof and would practice things such as bumping and setting to myself and then hitting (with control) every time.

  5. I had the same problem a few years ago. Here are some ideas.

    1. Enroll in a skills camp.

    2. Jog to work and home *If it is close*

    3. Swimming laps can increase strength training by allowing for resistance.

    4. If you own a volleyball, find a wall with a bit of space. Then mark a place on the wall and forearm pass the ball to the same spot a set number of times. When your arms get worn, move to overhand or setting to the spot on the wall.

    5. You can also do this with serveing. Practice tossing the ball and letting it drop right off your serveing arms foot.

    6. And hitting, toss the ball to yourself, and hit it down about a foot away from the wall. It will bounce off the ground, then the wall and come back to you. Practice your ball control by hitting the ball off the bounce back. See how long you can keep it going.

    7. Look into jump training. It is easy to do. About 30 minutes 3 days a week is what it would take. Do a series of jumps to increase your vert.

    8. Weight training is also an easy way to stay fit.

    9. You can always do push-ups and sit-ups. In volleyball the abs are essential to a powerful hitter, and the arms to a setter.

  6. go to camp. it'll help a lot.
