  2. Place yourself in a situation where you have to meet people.  Like a camp, or class, or program.  When an instructor calls for a volunteer...volunteer.  If you play get to know you games...take part.  If you get nervous a lot...try to figure out what is making you so nervous and if its rational...okay, but if its not a serious reason to be nervous...toughen up and go through with it.

    I used to be really shy and nervous about everything--you just have to face it and get involved.

  3. For anxiety try doing things that make you slightly uncomfortable and keep doing them until you feel fine doing them. Start with little things and work up to harder things when you feel better doing the little things. I guess you sort of need to do the same to overcome shyness. It's not easy, but there is no easy way to get over anything like that

  4. open up your inside. let people see whats going on iside of that good bright head of yours/ anxiety, well i have it myself but i practice coping skills and LAY OFF THE CAFFEIN!!

  5. Imagine the person you are talking to as naked.

    This mentally gives them a vulnerability and thus assists you in overcoming your feelings.

    Sounds silly, but it works!

  6. To overcome shyness takes time and you will often find yourself wondering if you can ever improve on your social skills, i used to be exactly the same, i even avoided going out or answering my phone in the fear that i might say something stupid. You must remember that shyness cannot be cured, some people are naturally introvert and some are extroverts. But you can improve on your confidence to make you appear less anxious in social situations and this will enable you to do all the things you have wanted to do but stopped yourself from doing.

        * Practise becoming fascinated by other people. Ask them about themselves, and concentrate when they answer you. Remember what they tell you about themselves so you can talk about it later, or on another occasion.

        * Great socialisers make other people feel comfortable and interesting. How do they do that? By being really, genuinely interested in other people. If you are talking to someone and you feel boring or inferior, ask why that is. Is it really all your fault?

        * Practise using fewer 'personal pronouns' when you talk about things. Sentences beginning with 'I' are not only a turn-off for the listener, they also keep the focus of attention on you, which increases shyness. (Note: Of course, part of friendship is giving away things about yourself, but only when you feel it is appropriate to do so.)

        * Remember that the way to overcome shyness is to focus elsewhere. Like on imagining what it will be like to really enjoy the social event, on how it will feel to be full of energy, or to be having a great conversation with someone.

    If you feel that your anxiety is taking over your life i would recommend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). BT can help you to make sense of overwhelming problems by breaking them down into smaller parts. This makes it easier to see how they are connected and how they affect you. These parts are:

        * A Situation - a problem, event or difficult situation

          From this can follow:

        * Thoughts

        * Emotions

        * Physical feelings

        * Actions

    Each of these areas can affect the others. How you think about a problem can affect how you feel physically and emotionally. It can also alter what you do about it.

  7. feel the fear but do it anyway
