Are there any themes that make it easier to get a higher grade more easily?

  1. At GCSE level, themes arent that important, but if you explore a theme in depth and show passion and genuine interest in it, it'll be a bonus!

    I did GCSE art 4 years ago, and subjects I looked at were "ruins"- you can look at buildings first, then develop the ruined idea into other things, dereliction, crime etc.

    I then looked at "Identity" and based it all on my lifestyle and hobbies.

    The general rule of art GCSE is the volume of work you do- if you do a lot of great quality work, you'll do well no matter what.



    Remember to include research- mind maps and photos, from both your own camera and the internet. Then observational work, drawings from real life score better than drawings from photographs. Artists copies, some whole ones, then copy some little sections from artists work. Perhaps do some in your own style, using their technique. They love to see you exploring ideas! development of ideas- dont just sketch them out, do small versions, mix your media. dont stick to just pencil or just paint, and show them that you're enjoying yourself.
