My parents are trveling to Maine, PEI, and Nova Scotia next month and don't/rarely use the internet to look into things like this. I just wanted to see if anyone has any helpful suggestions for places to visit. I know they are planning on spending a couple days on PEI and a couple days in Nova Scotia. They are also taking the ferry from Nova Scotia to Bar Harbor and will be at Acadia National Park for one day. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  1. In PEI a visit to the National Park is a must. Cavendish is the most popular beach, and a drive along the shore between Cavendish and North Rustico, and between Brackley and Dalvay, is well worth the trip. As well, Greenwich is stunning although it is farther away on the East end of the Island - the dune formations there are something totally unique.

Anne of Green Gables is really popular with tourists. There are a lot of 'Anne' themed things, but the biggest are the Green Gables house in Cavendish (http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/pe/greengabl... and the musical in Charlottetown (http://www.confederationcentre.com/en/ho... - another good, but less well known, alternative is the Anne and Gilbert musical in Summerside (http://www.anneandgilbert.com/).

For food, Cow's ice cream is a must, as mentioned (http://www.cows.ca/ourlocations.php), and lobster suppers are very popular, the most famous probably being St Ann's, followed by New Glasgow and Fisherman's Wharf in North Rustico (with a 60 foot salad bar). Another great spot is the Frosty Treat in Kengsington (http://www.kata.pe.ca/restaurants/frosty... which has delicious ice cream treats and lots of deep fried items, including clams. Mmmmm!!!

There's always lots going on in PEI in the summer, so it's worth checking into what festivals and local concerts will be on. Some good sites for general & festival info are:

    http://www.gov.pe.ca/infopei/index.php3?...

As well, drop into an Visitor Information Centre while there to pick up lots of free maps and brochures and get tons of good advice on what is going on and how to get there.

For Nova Scotia, the Fortress of Louisbourg is a popular visit, like stepping back in time (http://www.louisbourg.ca/fort/). The Cape Breton trail is a very popular drive (http://www.cabottrail.com/) and very scenic. The Bay of Fundy is stunning, although a lot more impressive and commonly seen from the New Brunswick side. For beaches, I've always like Lawrencetown with its surfers. Peggy's Cove is a very pretty place with an impressive lighthouse (http://www.peggyscove.ca/).

In Halifax, I'd take a trip to the waterfront, visit Citadel Hill (http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/ns/halifax/v... and maybe check out Shakespeare by the Sea (http://www.shakespearebythesea.ca/) for a unique theatre experience.

  2. Nova Scotia has a vast range of things to do. In Halifax, there's Citadel Hill, and lots of great things downtown. There are always festivals going on, especially in the summer. (the International Tattoo is July 1 -8, check out: http://www.nstattoo.ca/site2/index.php ).

Peggy's Cove is something people tend to go and see, too.

PEI is pretty small, so they could cover pretty much all of it if they are planning to spend a few days there. PEI has really nice beaches, and then of course there's the Green Gables site. And Cows ice cream! Awesome place : )

There are many nature trails and places to hike in both PEI and NS.

  3. You should check out the P.E.I. beaches and Cows ice cream as Peace Frog said. :) There's also a Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum in cavendish, and a corn maze, and lots of golf courses, a well-loved drive-in that plays two movies every night for a cheap price, and if you like theme parks check out Sandspit and Shining Waters (Neither have very many rides, Sandspit has a roller coaster and the "Rock 'N' Roll", which is a thrill ride, along with some other stuff, and Shining Waters has a few kiddy rides but AWESOME water slides, they're amazing). You might also catch the Festival of Lights where a few bands perform, such as Billy Talent, State of Shock and Hinder. Or if you're really lucky, you might catch Old Home Week, which is a carnival with the sickest rides!

In Nova Scotia, I'm not too sure, but you could check out Cabot Trail, which offers breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys.

Anyway, if you'd like more information (mainly about P.E.I.) feel free to contact me! :)
