What are some good tips for hanging pictures or shelves (in a bedroom)?

I have a glass shelf, 3 wooden shelves, and several medium size picture frames but I have no clue where to hang them. Also, my room is extremely narrow and long. Any tips?

As you have long narrow  situation I suggest you leave the sides free from obstruction and concentrate on the ends as this will change the whole appearance.

I have a room like yours and I have pics on the walls.  I took a colored piece of clothes line and tacked it in a corner...then tacked it on another wall, kinda cutting across wall to wall.  However you want will be fine.  Then, I take all my normal size pics, like 4x6 or smaller and hang them with colored clothes pins.  Put them close together and you will love to look @ them.  So much better than an album.
