I have lately being playing as a midfielder, but last week my coach asked me to play as a centre half forward. I got the ball a bit, and had some shots at goal. But I felt like my oppentant was beating me. Any tips on how to be a good centre half forward?

  1. If you get drafted by Melbourne, plead insanity!

  2. I hope you have got a lot of energy and are a good mark and an accurate kick.

  3. Lead hard off the 50m line, and flow through the mid-field. I play at half forward, so I know.

  4. Lead hard and run outside the 50m

Don't worry if you don't kick any goals, a very large part of your roll is assists - just get it in there.

  5. try 2 read the play and predict where the ball will go. then run your heart out to contest it everytime and lead and provide options for ur midfieders an backline to kick to.

oh and remember u gotta also man up on ur opponent wen they hav the ball. run hard, chase and tackle an keep the ball in ur inside 50 so that u have the greater chance of scoring.

its not always about attacking (though thats ur main job) but remember to think defensively too

  6. hey! the exact same thing happened to me last week! you should go up a bit to the centre. and keep running away from your opponent. that ticks them off!and lead hard! just think of dale thomas from collingwood.

    WHAT A LEGEND!

  7. Mate you really shouldn't ask a question like this on a site like this because people don't know what they're talkin about. Who said ook at Dale Thomas?? WTF?? Are you serious? For one he has never played CHF in his life and never will. Secondly I wouldn't suggest watching him anyway. If you want to watch a CHF play the postion as it should be look at Jonathan Brown. He is a master of the postition. The key is to RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN. Never stop presenting. If your team has the ball in defensive 50, lead hard all the way up the ground to be an option, if you don't get it, double back and lead up again.

I also think the wheel is one of the best leads. Lead hard out of the 50, if your leads ignored "wheel" around and lead back towards the goal in an arc. Your opponent will hate this because they then have to either watch you or the ball, and it's easy to lose your opponent. If you still don't get it, lead up again. Just keep leading and leading and leading and providing a target. If you do this your coach will be happy. Also take the ball on your hands at the highest point so your opponent can't spoil.

There's a lot of timing involved which you can't really explain over the internet, just go to a game and watch the best CHFs, when they lead, where they lead. And remember it's just as important to tackle and chase and put pressure on as it is to get the ball yourself.

Get a team mate up forward to lay some subtle blocks on your opponent so you can get free on a lead, and do the same for your team mate.

And watch Jonathan Brown. Hope that helps

  8. I play centre half forward, you need to lead and present as much as you can, goals are not your top priority just make sure you are an option for the backmen\midfielders to kick to.

Don't be afraid to run out to the wing and beyond, and rune your defender as hard as you can, you need to be the player who doesn't stop running all day.

  9. Yes. Here's a good tip.

Get the ball occasionally while you are playing!
