What are some good tips for the MCAT?

Im having some real trouble with the verbal and biological sciences sections. What are some good tips to help me improve these areas?

  1. If you have any business taking the MCAT, it's probably test anxiety rather than a poor knowledge base that's your problem. If that's the case, you could use the system I used for that and several other big tests (including specialty boards): start drinking heavily the night before the test, and try not to stop!

I'm in the same boat you are for the verbal.  I'd recommend for the VS, learn the annotation system provided by Princeton Review.  Once you quickly understand it, then modify it to your own specifications - basically what works for you.  Then perfect YOUR method by doing 2 passages at a time.  Practice this method UNTIMED first, then when you get the hang of it do it TIMED.

    As for the BS, memorize and understand all the basics to the point where you can explain them in under 4 secs.  Example - for postranslational modification, you should be able to clearly see the steps and be able to compare them to what you see in the passages.

    Just take your time w it and THINK; don't panic about reading every passage.  That is one of the traps set and a HUGE waste of time.
