  1. An exercise that helped me a lot was a light weight barbell across my shoulders (30 pounds) and then do 4 sets of 20 each squats. It's great for your thighs and knees. For hitting all I did was hours of hitting the floor, the wall and back up to me and hitting it again.

  2. Conditioning is always useful for volleyball as it is in most other sports.  Plyometrics are useful for increasing your vertical jump (http://www.weightsnet.com/Docs/plyometri... see #3), and short sprints involving a change in direction (eg suicides) are useful for the quick movements necessary in volleball.

Conditioning, despite its benefits, is not always the most gratifying training method.  A great drill for practicing alone is to grab a volleyball and find a tall, flat wall, and simply pepper with it.  Begin by repeatedly bumping the ball against it, then move on to setting, each time aiming for a particular spot on the wall and practicing good forming.  Only after you have dialed in on your passing and setting, move on to hitting.  Hit the ball against the wall then pass it back up: this forces a controlled hit as well as quick reaction to pass.  Gradually increase the power of your hit, and work on various shots and tips, while continually passing agains the wall, setting yourself, then hitting and passing again.  The drill will develop your control extremely quickly, and is invaluable when stuck with no one to practice with but wanting to practice.

  3. squats, diving..don't just throw yourself in places..but if your playing and you dive you need to know how to dive and control your dig at the same time
