Hello all,

Recently I've decided that I wanted to start an aquarium with an Asian theme. Right now I am currently cycling my tank, and I plan to stock my tank with:

Harlequin Rasbora: 6-8

Kuhli Loach: 4-6

Please note that this is my first tank, and that I would like to avoid aggressive fish.

  1. danios come from  South East Asia and they are great and they look cool

  2. ....dwarf, honey and/or gold gouramis

    .....serpae tetras

    ...head-n-tail light tetras

    ...red-hook silver dollars

....add several (4 or 5) marble angels after 2 or 3 months, to be sure the tank is cycled well, and the temperature is stabile

if you intend to use wood and live plants, the tank will surely lok marvelous (and 'Asian')

plants are vallisneria spirulata and corkscrew

    also consider sagitteria subulata.

...and mosses for the very bottom

...the ph of most tap water is ~7.0....by adding wood, some tannins leech out lowering the ph ~0.5

....~ph fluctuations are normal in a planted tank, and do not harm fish

..unless we start adding chemicals that bounce it around rapidly, frequently, and long term

....by using some wood the ph may remain ~6.5 to 7.0

....if for any reason you need to raise the ph a little, add coral

...coral gravel is easy to get, and just add a few cups full at a time, over a month or so, and you will see the ph gradually rise

  3. rasbarios are fine aswell as loaches u could also get some danios or tetras groups of 6 tho good luck

  4. Skip on the silver dollars, you will need to keep a minimum of 4 of them as they are schooling fish and they will get to big for the tank. Also skip on adding the coral unless you are keeping african cichlids or have tap water with an extremely low ph. I would suggest you look into keeping hatchets, they are cool looking fish and you will be able to keep a school of them comfortably in that tank.
