  2. Downtown (shopping area + cafés, restaurants, clubs, interesting sights)

    The main square = La Grand-Place :

Check out the architecture of this square, one of the few wonders in this world.

Visit the Townhall and, opposite this, you have a very interesting museum (Le Musée du Roy)

On the surrounding streets : l'Ilôt Sacré

-Manneken Pis ( litlle peeing boy who's collection of cloths can be seen in the mueum I just mentioned)

-Jeanneke Pis ( his little sister, sculpted as a joke but worthwhile a visit......+ on the same tiny alley, you'll find a café serving 100s and 100s of different beers from all over the world)

    - Les Galeries Royales (Galerie de la Reine, du Roi et des Princes), opposite the Grand-Place

    -The Chocolat Museum

    - Visit Brussels..underground.

    - Cathedrale Saint Michel

    - The Royal Palace, The Parc Royal (for relaxation) , The Musée Royal, the Musée de la musique (Art Nouveau building + an excellent collection of various music instrument sfrom all over the world)

    - Le Sablon

    - Les Serres Royales ( royal greenhouses housing very rare and tropical plants & flowers) this are only open during a certain period of the year. These are neither downtown nor Uptown but are situated on the outskirts of Brussels.

    - Atomium (this is to Brussels, what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris) + L'Europe Miniature

    - go to the Tram Museum and enjoy a tour aboard an old wooden tram, tour that goes around one of the best parts of the city (Southern part)  that has lots of parcs and a forest.

Cafés, restaurants, snack-bars, etc... in towntown Brussels (on & near the Grand-Place), The Place du Sablon or near the Place Sainte Catherine (specialising in fish/shellfish).

Uptown (shopping area + restaurants, cafés, clubs)

Toison d'Or, Boulevard de Waterloo & near the Chaussée d'Ixelles, Rue de la Paix.

Rue Haute (between the Sablon and Uptown = antique shops, Sunday open Flea Market, shops for Home decor, restaurants/cafés)

Wishing you a very interesting time in this lovely town (human sized town so that you can visit - nearly anywhere and everything - on foot, lots of fun. Enjoy the Belgian food and beers.

    Hope this helps.
